Girls Only: A Norte Strength Class For Girls Who Shred
Kids on bikes? Awesome! Girls on bikes? A bigger challenge. Traverse City’s youth cycling organization, Norte, has made a priority of making sure girls feel confident, empowered, and included in the world of bikes. Last week, we had the chance to spend a bit of time with just of few of those strong ladies…for a strength class!
The girls who joined us are already shredders, and we wanted to take the opportunity to show them a few easy exercises that they can mix into their training to compliment their riding. The workout was designed to work, flex, and strengthen muscles we don’t always use while cycling, as well as to counter the very static movements our body experiences on the bike. To make this even more useful, none of the workouts included equipment that was necessary to the movements, making these all easy to do at home.
Both Lauri and Coach Susan were there to make sure the girls were safe and supported, but it was clear almost immediately that these gals meant business! Quick to learn and even quicker to get after it, we ran through a nice 50 minute workout with just enough time to sneak in some snacks. Both coaches supplied their own take on a post-exercise energy bar, which were gone in the blink of an eye!
We had a ton of fun having the girls in the Hive and offering a look at a few exercises that won’t just make the gals stronger riders, but more well-rounded athletes. Make sure you keep an eye on all the Norte riders this summer! If you want to support the mission of happy, healthy kids on bike, consider supporting Lauri’s participation with Norte’s Heavy Ride this July.
